Mixed memories saved in a fob watch: @Dreampalace →
jools-the-kid: Vienna is just fantastic! Even when it’s cold and foggy and you’re barely able to take photographs because your fingers are too frozen to handle the camera. *lol* And you need lots of time…really. There’s so much to see. So many great places to visit, wonderful cafés and little book shops and… I feel so homesick for Vienna - but I’ve never even been there, lol. I...

lilianavonk replied to your post:For one of our assessments this term each member… Can you talk to your tutor or an advisor about this? IMO your honesty is refreshing & your devotion to the topic is unquestionable, so maybe they could find you two other films to pitch…? Or is it getting the experience of pitching that’s relevant? I think I’ll keep on researching it and preparing,...

When your film includes both of the second unit clapper-board loaders in its end credits, it might be time to think about some sort of credits selection policy

For one of our assessments this term each member of my Spectacle in British Cinema class have been given the titles of two British films currently held by the DVD company Optimum/Studio Canal. We have to research these films, pitch their release to our tutor who will in turn pitch the best ones to Optimum. I am in a quandry. By some miraculous chance I got two films made by Launder and Gilliat -...

Am watching 'Pimpernel Smith' 1941
Leslie Howard’s Second World War update of The Scarlet Pimpernel, in which he plays an archaeology professor who sneaks intellectuals out of Nazi Germany.  It reminded me of this -  Funnily enough, Conrad Veidt - who starred in the 1933 adaptation of Jew Suss - was supposed to play a modern Pimpernel character, along the same lines as Howard’s film, but it never materialised.

This is one of my favourite details in this film. An instrumental version of ‘These Foolish Things’ plays through out this scene as background music, then, as Robert and Cathy prepare to leave their flat Robert turns off the wireless and the music stops.

lilianavonk said: My unsolicited two cents—USD, ‘natch—is that I’ve always felt like a weirdo everywhere I’ve gone, but only in the UK did I feel like an *affectionately regarded* weirdo. (It’s amazing how much you can get away with because of this accent… ;) I totally agree. There is an American girl on my course and when she worries about stuff like maybe having bought the wrong kind of train...

*Claps hands gleefully* A DLS fan!! I thought I was the only one, now I have an excuse to post stuff! :D Have you seen the TV versions? Is Gaudy Night your favourite Wimsey novel too? SO MANY QUESTIONS See, this is why some sort of ‘about me’ post should be mandatory.

I feel like I've never properly introduced myself
So here goes -  I’m Lizzie, I’m 24. I live in England - currently Norfolk but I call Yorkshire home. I get pretty Bronte-ish about Yorkshire actually, even though I’m not an outdoorsy person. I prefer to curl up in front of a roaring fire with a good book or a classic film and revel in the knowledge that safe outside my window there lies a wild and blustery landscape waiting for...

I love this film - I might even prefer it to The Lady Vanishes, but I mostly I love the fake-romance storyline, Rex Harrison does sardonic and sexy like no one else ‘If you could pretend to find me almost unbearably attractive, so much the better’
